Background

I have served as your town council-at-large in Brighton for the past 6 years. I served 20 years in the U.S. Army and 22 years in state and local government. During my careers, I’ve been directly involved with budgeting, understanding federal, state and local regulations, personnel management and how to apply those rules to our town. I have a Master of Public Administration Business Administration (accounting minor) degree. Both are directly applicable expertise we need as a Town. I also hold certifications as a Certified Public Manager through the State of Utah, and certificates from the military in law enforcement and computer systems security. Since our town was incorporated, I’ve put my skills and expertise directly to work for you. I developed and managed our budgets, hired staff, and created systems to keep us accountable. I’ve made sure our town lives within its means, that our tax dollars are spent wisely., In conjunction with the Mayor and Council’s long-term vision I have played an instrumental role in helping to assure our plans are both realistic and within our budget

Impact

The most important issue for me is protecting our town’s way of life. We live in a beautiful mountain community with a special character that drew us all here. But we also live with limits — limited land, limited water, and overlapping rules from the county, the city, the national forest, and private land. That means growth must be carefully managed, or we risk losing the things that make this place special. What motivated me to run is ensuring that our environment, our small-town feel, and our community character are preserved — while keeping our town strong, our finances responsible, and our services steady. I want to make sure we grow wiser, not bigger.

Experience

My experience is not just academic — it’s practical.
I’ve already demonstrated the skills needed to guide this town through its early years.
  - Budgeting: I’ve built budgets that are transparent, responsible, and respectful of your tax dollars.
  - Planning: I know how to align our ideas with the legal, regulatory, and environmental constraints we face, so that projects succeed such as Silver Lake boardwalk and most recently fiber conduit.

My volunteer activities include serving on the Salt Lake County Clerk Elections Division Poll Manager, Salt Lake City International Airport Information Ambassador and Bureau of Land Management “The Wave” safety patrol.

My overall background in public service, law, and management positions provide the required background for strategic roles in policy and planning initiatives.
